MINUTES
Present:
Phil Kercher, Mike Kelly, Brad Jones, Dale Oakley, Chad Beebe, John Williams,
Tim Heidlebaugh, Matthew Campbell, Marline Brenna, Bruce Price, Will Mackin, Ron

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order 10:00 by President Norm McLarin.
Approval of Minutes:
The minutes from the September 7th meeting were approved.
Topics:
1) SECRETARY/TREASURER REPORT: Randy Kaiser gave a treasurer report.
2) ADVOCACY: Tim Heidlebaugh and Dale Oakley along with other members
from WSSHE spoke about participating in a meeting with L&I Electrical Plan
Review WSHA to help improve and expedite the L&I Electrical Plan Review process
for Hospitals.
3) ASHE NEWS: Phil encouraged members to pursue the CHFM test and
informed them of locations that the test can be taken at the ASHE annual and
certain H&R Block locations. Fill spoke to members about membership in ASHE and
the value it brings to its members. Currently WSSHE has about 42% ASHE
membership
4) 2008 MEETING LOCATIONS: March 14th Samaritan Moses Lake, June 6th
Kadlec Medical Center Richland, September 5th Central Washington Hospital
Wenatchee, December 5th Sacred Heart Medical Center Spokane.
5) NEWSLINE ARTICLES: Members present were asked to submit articles for
the quarterly WSSHE Newline Bill Bowden for the 1st Quarter Randy Kaiser 2nd
quarter, Norm Mclarin 3rd and Tim Heidlebaugh 4th quarter.
6) BOARD REPORT: Norm informed the members of Dee Tiedemann resignation
as the State Sec/Treas. position and reported that the board was looking at
contracting with a professional service to provide this function AMI Association
Management Inc. Tom Pitts from MultiCare Southwest chapter is the 2008 Wsshe
state President.
Norm and Phil spoke about the upcoming semi-annual and the annual dates and
locations. The semi-annual will be at Campbell’s resort Lake Chelan April 23-24
with Emergency power supply systems and the annual will be held in Wenatchee
Convention Center September 16-19. Phil also informed the members that the
agreements for the annuals have been arranged thru 2012 in order to lock in
pricing. The locations are Yakima 2009, Spokane 2010, Yakima 2011, and Spokane
2012.
7) NOMINATION COMMITTEE: A nomination committee to select the 2008 state
president elect and 2009 state president which will come from the Eastern
Chapter with Randy Kaiser, Norm Mclarin, Brad Jones and Phil Kercher nominated
Phil Kercher for the state board to consider on at the February board meeting.
8) 2008 OFFICERS: The 2008 Eastern Chapter President Brad Jones Central
Washington Comprehensive Mental Health was introduced as the 2008 chapter
president and Randy Kaiser will serve as Sec/Tres. Norm Mclarin the out going
2007 chapter president was awarded with a plaque recognizing him for his service
to the chapter.
9) QUESTIONS FROM: Mike Kelly asked if any one had or if smoke detectors
were required in patient rooms. The 2003 UBC does not require. Local authority
having jurisdiction should be contacted.
Phil Kercher asked members if they have had any issues with
cleaning/disinfectant agents for clinical equipment and if everyone follows the
manufactures recommendations. An FDA alert concerning the corrosiveness of
certain quaternary cleaning agents and the damage they can cause to clinical
equipment.
Phil also addressed mixed sprinkler head types in smoke departments that all
heads must be of the same type regular response, quick response etc. Be aware
during remodel of existing spaces putting in new heads and overlooking existing
heads with in that space.
10) EDUCATIONAL TOPIC: Chad Beebe, AIA, DOH Construction Review Services
Manager gave a presentation on the many and various activities with in his
department. Chad reported on the review process and the new look of the
applications. Chad informed members that one of the changes is that the
consultants for projects are now being listed on the application so as to
receive any comments or correspondence concerning the project. The new
application is available on the crs website.
Chad reported that the adoption of the guidelines with the amendments may occur
in March of 2008 or later. One of the issues still in debate is the private room
verses semi-private and the hand wash sinks in the bathrooms and patient rooms.
